STYL.

On the App Store

STYL. is a personal color application for iPhone and iPad, built on the twenty-two palette system licensed from Global Color Analysis.

What personal color analysis is

Personal color analysis establishes which colors suit a particular person: which shades make someone look rested and present, and which pull the color out of their face. It is not a question of taste, and it is not a style opinion. It follows from properties of a person’s own coloring that can be observed and compared — the undertone of the skin, how light or deep that coloring is, how much saturation it can carry before the color starts wearing the person, and how much contrast there is between skin, hair and eyes.

Done properly it is diagnostic work, carried out by a trained consultant. The outcome is not a label or a set of tips. It is an assignment to one specific palette.

The twenty-two palette system

Global Color Analysis resolves the range of human coloring into twenty-two palettes. Each palette is a fixed, curated set of colors belonging to one particular combination of undertone, value, chroma and contrast. Each also carries its own guidance on how to work within it — makeup, hair, metals, denim, pattern, and how much contrast to hold between pieces.

A person belongs to exactly one of the twenty-two. That palette, rather than a season name or a general rule about warm and cool, is what STYL. reasons from. Every answer the app gives is relative to it.

The palettes are held in the app exactly as licensed. Colors and values are unchanged, nothing is added, removed or recolored, and the underlying values are never shown or exported.

What the app does

  • Point the camera at a garment, or open a photograph, and see whether that color belongs to your palette — and which color in it comes closest
  • Keep a record of what you already own, and build outfits from it
  • Compare two colors side by side
  • Read the guidance that belongs to your palette
  • Ask questions in plain language and get an answer grounded in your palette rather than a general opinion about color

Matching runs on the device. Nothing has to be uploaded for a color to be compared, and the app works with no network connection.

For color consultants

A consultant working across different palettes can hold all twenty-two at once, and send a client a code that unlocks the single palette belonging to them.

Documentation

Privacy

Styling runs on the device. A wardrobe and its photographs stay there unless you choose to share a closet or board, and the app has no accounts to sign into.

Some things do leave the device, and the Privacy Policy sets out each in full: feedback and usage, which can be switched off; notes you choose to report; the record of a redeemed palette code; and the invitation link when you connect with a code. Each is associated with an identifier specific to this app. Closets and boards you share go to your own iCloud storage. No advertising identifiers are collected, nothing is used for tracking, and no data is sold.

Accessibility

STYL. follows the system text-weight setting and offers four further steps beyond it, for people who find the default too light.

With VoiceOver, every color is read as a description rather than a name — “a medium, soft blue, in your palette” — because a color name alone tells a blind user nothing about the color it sits beside. Dynamic Type and system contrast settings are honored throughout. The accessibility of this website is covered in the accessibility statement.

Licensing and attribution

The color palettes in STYL. are licensed from Global Color Analysis. The license terms are implemented in the software itself rather than left to a policy document.
